HARMAN’s Soundcraft Provides Sound and Lighting Training at Winter NAMM 2013

Posted on 13:10 by Unknown

ANAHEIM, California — At Winter NAMM 2013, HARMAN’s Soundcraft will host a seminar at the H.O.T. (Hands-On Training) Zone titled, “Lighting Control for Sound Guys.” The session will introduce attendees to the DMX protocol and will provide training using Soundcraft’s Si Performer—the first console to integrate sound and lighting control in one board.

The H.O.T. (Hands-On Training) Zone provides live educational sessions and innovative ideas for professionals in the pro audio, entertainment technologies, music business operations, recording, live sound, DJ, house of worship, commercial systems contractors/integrators, and stage and lighting industries.

“The Si Performer is revolutionary in its integration of sound and lighting disciplines and while it solves a litany of challenges, it also raises the issue that many sound engineers do not know how to operate a lighting console, nor are all lighting engineers familiar with the ins and outs of running a sound board,” said Richard Ayres, Product Manager for Soundcraft, who will be running the seminar. “Our session at the H.O.T. Zone will aim to provide engineers with a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines.”

Thanks to integrated DMX functionality, the Soundcraft Si Performer range adds lighting control options to an already impressive and powerful audio feature set. The Si Performer consoles have an input capacity of 80 inputs to mix and the Si Performer 2 features 24 mic and eight line inputs, while the Si Performer 3 boasts 32 mic and eight line inputs, plus four FX return channels. The unique integration of a DMX512 port offers core lighting control. The first release of software provides four scene masters (A-D) with associated slave channels on the ALT fader layers, individual colour intensities or parameters are set on the slave faders with an overall master level fader, which itself may be assigned to any of the main fader layers for simultaneous access to audio and lighting levels.

“Lighting Control for Sound Guys” will be held on Sunday, January 27 at 1:30 PM, in Room 203 A-B at the Anaheim Convention Center. For more information, please visit http://www.namm.org/thenammshow/2013/hot-zone/lighting-control-sound-guys

HARMAN’s Lexicon Gear Is Bulletproof For The BackBeat Brawlers’ Gabriel “The Gun” Gonzalez

Posted on 12:59 by Unknown

ANAHEIM, California – Gabriel “The Gun” Gonzalez is a trumpeter, percussionist, producer and arranger who co-founded No Doubt with Gwen Stefani in 1986 and was instrumental in the development of the third-wave ska movement of the 1980s. Gabriel The Gun is currently with the BackBeat Brawlers, a Reggae/Ska band with Jazz and Soul influences. Conducting an extensive amount of his work from his home studio, Gonzalez has become a convert to HARMAN’s Lexicon MX400XL 4-In/4-Out Reverb/Effects Processor and I-O FW810S 10-Input/12-Output FireWire Audio Interface.

“When I started looking at hardware upgrades recently, I was attracted to the Lexicon products because of their reputation, bulletproof construction, ease of plug-and-play use and especially their sound quality,” explained Gonzalez.

Gonzalez and his musical partner, Mel Scott of Blue Room Studios, have recorded close to 200 TV and film scores and have a keen understanding for the sound that Gonzalez  could get in his home studio. “When we installed the Lexicon MX400XL and I-O FW810S, the difference in sound quality was immediately apparent not just to me but to everyone present. The sounds we could achieve became cleaner, crisper and more refined – in a word, stunning,” added Gonzalez.

Currently working on his new BackBeat Brawlers album, Gonzalez explains Lexicon components have become an integral part of its production. “I’ve also done several film submissions recently. Over the years, I’ve tried a huge amount of outboard processing gear and the reverbs, effects, delays and dynamic capabilities of Lexicon MX400XL and I-O FW810S hands-down blow everything else out of the water,” stated Gonzalez.

“There are tons of AD/DA recording interfaces out there but only Lexicon has that trademark monitoring reverb that lets you monitor the performance with reverb while it’s being recorded. This really helps artists feel more comfortable and very often we’ll get a better take. Also, the built-in dbx compression and EQ has proven to be invaluable. For my work this means that we can slightly compress and EQ the tracks while recording to get that sound we want instead of using all kinds of additional gear and effects afterward. In a project studio, it might be the reverse of how a lot of people do it but for me it makes recording easier and faster,” stated Gonzalez.

“The quality of the preamps in both Lexicon units is also outstanding, as is the built-in Type IV dbx D/A conversion and bundled Pantheon™ II reverb plug-in. I think Lexicon makes the best gear out there – period.”

The Gun is looking forward to more touring with the BackBeat Brawlers and creating more music with the Lexicon MX400L and I-O FW810S.

The JBL PRX415M-WH (left) and
PRX412M-WH (right)
offer the same
performance and capabilities as
the PRX412M and PRX415M, in a sleek white finish.
ANAHEIM, California –At Winter NAMM 2013, HARMAN’s JBL Professional is introducing white versions of its popular PRX415M and PRX412M passive portable loudspeakers. The new 15-inch PRX415M-WH and 12-inch PRX412M-WH offers the same performance and capabilities as the PRX412M and PRX415M, in a sleek white finish that offers systems designers with another loudspeaker option to discreetly fit into various environments that require white loudspeaker systems.

“The PRX400 Series has been a tremendous success for end-users and sound contractors who require exceptional sound and rugged reliability in a passive loudspeaker format,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, Loudspeaker Group. “In addition to our commitment to providing market-leading audio performance, the PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH demonstrate our commitment to providing a variety of aesthetic options for audio applications.”

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH can be used as either floor monitors or for overhead suspension in a permanent installation application where white enclosures are desirable. As with all PRX400 Series loudspeakers, they are designed to work hand in hand with Crown Audio’s powerful and innovative XTi2 Series amplifiers. Crown XTi2 amplifiers incorporate enhanced pre-set performance tunings for PRX400 Series loudspeakers, including crossover points for a sat/subwoofer setup, and optimized parametric filter that bring out the full potential of PRX400 Series loudspeakers. JBL PRX400 tunings are also available in the dbx DriveRack® PA+ signal processor/complete loudspeaker management system.

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH utilize extremely high-quality, tour-tested drivers and components to deliver clear, detailed and dynamic sound for bands, DJs, nightclubs, schools, houses of worship or other professional touring and installed sound applications. They feature Neutrik® SpeakON combination connectors and are built from lightweight, yet extremely tough 18mm birch/poplar multi-laminate hardwood covered in JBL’s resilient DuraFlex™ covering. They also feature rugged 16 gauge steel grilles with an acoustically transparent white cloth backing.

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH incorporate twelve M-10 suspension points and hardened steel eyebolts for safe hanging in light-duty installations. In common with all JBL Professional products, the PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH loudspeakers have survived JBL’s 100-hour power test, in which they are submitted to 100 hours of continuous, high-level input. The speakers also go through a barrage of unforgiving environmental and strength tests including harsh temperatures and humidity, ensuring they will perform perfectly anywhere. They also incorporate JBL’s Sonic Guard speaker protection circuit that automatically attenuates the signal going into the high-frequency section of the speaker if too much input signal is detected, and restores normal operation when the overload condition passes.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional EON Portable Powered Loudspeakers are Inducted Into the TEC Foundation’s TECnology Hall of Fame

Posted on 12:52 by Unknown

From the original EON15P (left) to the current
EON515XT (right), JBL Professional’s EON
Series of portable powered loudspeakers
have made a significant contribution to the
advancement of audio technology, as recognized
by the EON Series’ induction into the TEC
Foundation’s TECnology Hall of Fame.
ANAHEIM, California  – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that its EON Series of portable powered loudspeakers has been inducted into the TEC Foundation’s TECnology Hall of Fame. The TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio established the TECnology Hall of Fame in 2004 to recognize audio products and innovations that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of audio technology. Inductees are chosen by a panel of more than 50 recognized audio experts.

When the JBL EON series was introduced in 1995 it single-handedly started the portable powered speaker revolution. The first two EON15P and EON10P models answered the need for powerful, easy-to-use, lightweight and durable portable PA and musical instrument speakers that combined the convenience of built-in amplification with outstanding sound quality.

The EON Series introduced a host of technical and design innovations including JBL’s patented Differential Drive® transducers, which employ a pair of in-line voice coils in separate magnetic gaps instead of the usual single voice coil-gap combination to enable maximum performance with minimum weight and more effective use of available enclosure space. The use of JBL’s Thermomaster® Total Thermal Management System provided efficient cooling without the need for fans or bulky heatsinks.

The EON Series was an instant hit, embraced by consumers and fueling the subsequent growth of the powered molded-enclosure integrated system segment of the MI market. Over time, the EON series evolved and expanded. The second-generation G2 models offered upgraded drivers, higher power and expanded input functionality. Today, the JBL EON Series continues its tradition of excellence with the 2-way, 15-inch EON515XT.

“We are extremely proud that our EON series has been chosen for induction into the TECnology Hall of Fame,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, JBL Professional. “EON has become the industry standard for portable powered speakers and we are gratified that the TEC judging panel has recognized the EON Series with one of pro audio’s most prestigious honors.”

Jeff Iftekaruddin Plays Music For Kids (and Adults Too) Using HARMAN’s JBL Professional EON515XT Portable PA Loudspeakers

Posted on 12:49 by Unknown

Singer/songwriter Jeff Iftekaruddinhas enjoyed success touring throughout
California with HARMAN’s JBL EON515XT
portable PA loudspeaker.
ANAHEIM, California  – Jeff Iftekaruddin is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who has been influenced by many styles of music, from the works of John Lennon that his mother loved to the music of his father’s native India. Recently, Iftekaruddin has enjoyed success touring throughout California with HARMAN’s JBL Professional EON515XT portable PA loudspeaker providing world-class audio quality in a lightweight and compact form factor.

From the day he first picked up a guitar, Iftekaruddin has been interested in combining various genres of music to create his own style, including songs recorded in both English and Spanish. His eclectic approach to songwriting can be heard in his most recent adult contemporary release, Songs About Women.

In the past two years, two unforeseen events have had a major influence on Iftekaruddin’s musical outlook. “Up until 2011 I was only making music for ‘grown ups,’” Iftekaruddin noted. “Then a chance encounter with a very special young girl and her family added a whole new perspective to my musical career.”

Iftekaruddin was playing his guitar near an auto shop while waiting for an oil change when a young boy and girl came over to listen. The girl began to softly sing along and Iftekaruddin did an improvised duet with the girl for about 15 minutes.

He then realized the girl’s parents had come over—and were politely waiting for him to finish. “The girl’s mother explained that her daughter was autistic and that they didn’t want to interrupt a song that was so calming for their child,” Iftekaruddin said. “She told me that her daughter had been feeling extremely anxious and that singing the song with me was the first time she had been calm all day.”

Iftekaruddin went home that night and reflected on how connected this little girl had been to his music. “I decided to write the girl her very own album,” he said I” wanted to fill it with music that any child—and their parents—would enjoy, no matter what their challenges were in life.” The result is Iftekaruddin’s new album, Songs About Turtles, Wolves and Stan the Man: Music for Kids Who Get It!

Another unplanned occurrence made Iftekaruddin realize the importance of good sound in live performance. “At the last minute I was asked to do a charity event in Santa Monica and had to use whatever PA they had. It was a JBL EON system,” he said. “I was performing in a massive yoga studio with beautiful bamboo floors and as soon as I plugged in and started playing I was mesmerized. I stopped worrying about my performance and just got lost in the sound. To hear my voice and guitar ringing out of the EON monitors with such clarity was just amazing – a definite rock star moment!”

Iftekaruddin soon purchased a JBL EON15XT powered loudspeaker. “Now I know I’m going to have great sound wherever I go,” he said. “I primarily play a Godin A6 guitar live and the EON515XT allows me to play direct—no EQ pedal, no ultra-funky acoustic wave modulator—just direct. I can hear every single nuance of my axe through the EON515XT.”

Iftekaruddin takes the EON515XT with him at all times. “I also have a 12-Volt/35-Watt battery plus a converter that I use to give me mobile power,” he said. “A lot of times after a show I will drive to a bank parking lot or the local Costco in Los Feliz and play for a few hours. To hear the EON515XT rebounding in such massive spaces is a holy experience.”

“My foray into the kids’ music arena has been a huge surprise in my life, and after doing shows many kids come up to me and want to know about my guitar and my equipment,” he added. “They are always interested in the EON515XT and its built-in mixer and I usually wind up having a ‘helper’ or two at a birthday party to help me set up. It’s so easy to use that they are always able to pick up very quickly how the EON515XT works.”

In addition, Iftekaruddin has found JBL Professional’s customer support to be first-rate. “It has been my experience that a lot of large companies lose touch with their customers, but JBL makes me feel like they listen to us folks who are out there in the field,” he said.

Iftekaruddin continues to bring his musical message of positivity to audiences at home and abroad. “On my new CD you’ll hear songs about working through challenges and making mistakes, a song that can help kids learn Spanish and a song about the beauty of being ‘different.’ I do my best to create a fun listening experience for the whole family.”

For more information please visit Jeff Iftekaruddin’s website, www.themusicofjeff.com. Songs About Women can be found at www.soundcloud.com/songsaboutwomen.

HARMAN’s AKG Introduces Revamped Digital Automatic Microphone Mixers – DMM6 and DMM12 – During NAMM

Posted on 12:42 by Unknown

ANAHEIM, California – Adding to its family of microphone mixers, AKG proudly introduces its new line of digital automatic microphone mixers – DMM6 and DMM12.  With an intuitive user interface, numerous DSP functions and high signal to noise ratio (S/N), the DMM series provides users with the highest quality in automatic mixing technology.

DMM12 offers 12 inputs, while easily adjusting the mic to line level.  Its four line outputs (2x stereo) are individually assignable for each input.  The stereo record outputs are individually assignable, while the headphone out port allows users to listen to each input and output individually.

DMM6 offers six inputs and two line outputs at 1x stereo.

When in use, all inputs are active, but attenuated to a level that equals the level of one “active microphone.” If two or more inputs receive relevant input signals, their amplification is increased to a level, which allows overall output to equal one “active microphone,” resulting in an absolute feedback-stable system.

Working to deter noise pickup, the DMM series senses numerous sonic activities to monitor and diminish unwanted sound.  If a signal is picked up over a long period of time, the mixers understand that it may be an air conditioning unit or other unavoidable noise.  When a large number of microphones pick up the same signal and all mics are active, the DMM system will recognize applause and not react.  When two microphones are receiving the same signal, the mic with the slightly higher level gets priority, while the other one is attenuated.

“AKG understands the needs of the live sound professional and the updates to our line of rackable mixers underscores our goal of providing high-quality, reliable sound in all performance spaces,” stated Thomas Giczy, Business development Manager, Installed Sound, AKG.  “DMM6 and DMM12 embody the technological advancements AKG delivered with its original analog 8-channel auto mixer, AS8 and its digital predecessors DMM4/2/4. DMM12 and 6 will be a tactical addition to any installed sound system to ensure proper sound.”
