HARMAN’s JBL and Crown Provide Sound for National Network of Cinemas Project In Mongolia

Posted on 08:30 by Unknown
MONGOLIA — Most audio/video projects involve a single location and anything from a conference room to a domed stadium. That’s a major endeavor by anyone’s standards – but a project that involves equipping an entire country with a network of cinemas? That’s exactly what the Mongolia Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism (MCST) is currently undertaking in conjunction with systems integrator Cinema of Sound LLC and Kinoton Korea, Inc.

In their effort to provide professional high-quality cinemas to Mongolian citizens, Cinema of Sound and Kinoton are building Standard Cinema Point theaters in Mongolia’s aimags (first-level administrative subdivisions), villages and city districts. Twenty installations have been completed to date, spanning across the country’s nearly 604,000 square miles. Audio for all the installations is provided by HARMAN’s JBL JRX125 dual-15-inch loudspeakers and Crown DSi 2000 amplifiers, which are designed specifically for cinema applications.

“Mongolia is a country that has vast areas of scattered settlements and sparse population, so sparse that our country’s most remote citizens watch movies only on television, as there are no theaters,” said Jigjidsuren Khurelbaatar, CEO of Cinema of Sound LLC. “Thanks to our Standard Cinema Point project, which is part of the MCST’s efforts to bring a richer cultural environment to Mongolians, people throughout Mongolia will be able to enjoy a true cinema experience with high-quality sound and projection.”

Cinema of Sound LLC standardized on the JBL JRX125 loudspeakers and Crown DSi 2000 amplifiers for the Standard Cinema Point installations to achieve consistent sound, performance and reliability in every venue. “By standardizing the equipment we’re using, we know we can depend on a high level of audio quality and dependable day-to-day operation no matter where the theaters are located,” Chris Bae, Managing Director of Kinoton Korea, Inc.

The JRX125 incorporates features including dual 15-inch woofers with large 2.5-inch (64mm) edgewound ribbon voice coils, titanium-diaphragm compression high-frequency drivers and high-voltage crossover components to ensure exceptional performance under the most demanding conditions of day-to-day use. Crown’s DSi Series amplifiers are specifically designed to meet the needs of cinema applications and feature onboard digital signal processing including crossovers, EQ filters, delay and output limiting to deliver exceptional sound quality.

Cinema of Sound and Kinoton Korea are contracted to build 50 more Standard Cinema Point theaters in the remainder of 2013, bringing the total of theaters in Mongolia to 70. Theaters are currently installed in capital city Ulaanbaatar and in locations throughout the country.

Amerisports Bar’s Live Entertainment Relies on HARMAN Professional Solution with AKG Wireless In-Ear Monitoring System and Mics

Posted on 06:00 by Unknown
VIENNA, Austria – With live entertainment every weekend ranging from legendary classic rock to top 40 covers by local bands, Ameristar Casino’s Amerisports Bar located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, recently added HARMAN’s AKG IVM4500 IEM in-ear-monitors to improve sound for every act in its uniquely shaped room. With a full HARMAN support system, including a Soundcraft digital console, Crown amplifiers and JBL Professional loudspeakers, FOH engineer Dan Allen ensures that casino patrons will enjoy their time eating, drinking and dancing in the bar.

With the multiple sets of AKG IVM4500 IEM’s and its room simulation program, Allen says the performing artists have become more comfortable in the large room, which is octagonally shaped at the stage and dance floor end. The remaining area of the room – approximately 150 feet long – is rectangular and contains an island bar about 100 feet back. The room’s technical staff had struggled with acoustical issues for years before the HARMAN audio overhaul and a sound-dampening renovation. With the internal processing selections of IVM4500 including 8 compression, 8 EQ and 8 room simulations settings, moving onstage acts to the AKG in-ear monitoring system has yielded positive results.

“AKG thought of everything when it developed the IVM4500’s,” stated Allen. “The in-ears are easy to set up and have very low signal latency. Even artists who have no previous experience with in-ear monitors are easily adjusting to them, allowing for their best performances every week.”

Within the casino, wireless communication signals are very dense, as security and other departments utilize numerous free frequency channels. Allen’s AKG WMS470 wireless mic systems are always clear and have never dropped signal during a performance.

The Amerisports Bar’s audio reinforcement system also includes an AKG Rhythm Pack with a D112 kick drum mic, C430 condensers for overheads and D40’s for toms. A Soundcraft Si Expression 3 digital console and JBL STX800 series loudspeakers powered by Crown XTI amplifiers round out the concert sound system.

“I’ve really grown fond of the Soundcraft Expression,” Allen continued. “The user levels, recall and scene setups work well and can be easily used by our IT personnel if I’m not there. It’s easy to train those engineers on the Expression who are used to analog boards. And, the JBL speakers are very honest, leaving the entire system quite transparent, especially in the atypical-shaped room. I have been a JBL fan for life and every time I see that orange sticker, I know we’ll have great sound.”

HARMAN Professional Enhances Coke Studio at MTV’s Live Performances with Audio Support from Flying Carpet Productions & SOUND.COM

Posted on 11:59 by Unknown
MUMBAI, India – The Coke Studio at MTV India is a premier platform for showcasing a fusion of India’s best musical talent. Now in its third season, the popular television broadcast events bring together the country’s top independent, classical, folk and popular artists and their creative energies into one entertaining series. Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company, the show invites musicians from different genres to jam together while recording the resulting collaboration on the spot. The series has gained massive popularity with more than 40 million viewers in the second season alone. This year, the season has pushed the envelope by providing leading-edge music that features world-renowned composer AR Rahman with top artists like Sivamani, Amit Trivedi, Clinton Cerejo and others for listeners across the globe.  The iconic AR Rahman is a global endorsee for HARMAN’s JBL brand, and Sivamani is an AKG endorsee.

The show is being supported by India’s leading audio & music production company Flying Carpet Productions (FCP), the sonic architects and turnkey audio solutions provider. Led by Audio Director, Ashish Manchanda, the company has supported broadcast music formats like Coke Studio, MTV Unplugged and has mixed for movie soundtracks like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Dev D. In turn, the company collaborates with leading sound reinforcement provider SOUND.COM for The Coke Studio’s artist and production monitoring requirements at the shoot and during rehearsals. The MTV series also features Grammy™ Award winning engineer Stephen Fitzmaurice, who is leveraging his expertise from having worked with renowned artists like Seal and U2.

Commenting on the successful opening of Season 3 of Coke Studio at MTV, Ashish Manchanda, Audio Director & Engineer, FCP said, “With over 200 musicians and over 45 original songs, Season 3 of Coke Studio at MTV presents a plethora of musical flavors, enthralling audiences with unique combinations of music genres and versatile musicians. Thanks to the premium range of microphones & headphones by AKG and Soundcraft mixing consoles, we are able to capture life- like performances of the wonderful artists featured on the show- be it vocals or instruments. Considering the live nature of the program and the expectation for audio clarity, we are very pleased to collaborate with SOUND.COM. Their HARMAN Professional equipment deployed at the show has delivered flawless sound output, receiving very encouraging comments from the musicians and composers.”

SOUND.COM, with a track record of handling audio for some of the most illustrious live events in India, has provided the entire range of audio equipment and the backend support for the stage equipment setup along with RF technicians.  For the demanding project, Ashish Manchanda along with Warren D’souza, Managing Director of SOUND.COM, decided upon the Soundcraft Vi 6 console for use at the audio mixing position along with a Soundcraft Vi1 as a sub-mixer for larger acts. JBL LSR 4328’s are in use for monitoring during recording.  “Coke Studio at MTV is a testimonial to our company’s commitment to cult musical shows on television and the internet,” confirmed D’Souza. “We have the experience and equipment for the artists and producers to deliver successful productions that are enjoyed by the viewers. Our synergy with Flying Carpet Productions is a testimonial to our work on MTV Unplugged & Coke Studio and we will continue to deliver our best by exploiting technology to the limit.”

“The Vi6 console has a remarkably intuitive Vistonics interface which made it easy to handle almost 60 inputs on each episode of the show with relative ease,” noted Mark Thomas, Systems Engineer for the project. “We chose to work on the Soundcraft Vi6 this year due to its ViSi iPad app. During the recording sessions each musician in the house band was given control over his/her mix using the ViSi remote app on an iPad.This enabled them to tweak their mixes for every song, based on their individual requirements, while the engineer concentrated on handling the in-ear monitor mixes for the guest musicians and singers. The musicians were ecstatic about being able to control their own personal mixes with no learning curve. We used up to 12 iPads simultaneously on the Salim- Sulaiman episode, without a single re-sync issue or network glitch.”

“As far as monitoring is concerned for the series, the amount of inputs we had to cater to was challenging. The Soundcraft Vi6 definitely made life simple in terms of monitoring, having the flexibility to make all of the busses into auxiliaries as per the requirement of individual producers,” added Ezekiel Tyle, Monitoring Engineer for the show.  “It was an absolute pleasure to work on this board.”

For microphone technology, the show is outfitted with an assortment of AKG models including AKG DSR 700 V2 wireless systems, D7 and D5 microphones for back-up vocals. Other microphones such as C414’s for drum overheads and piano, and C451’s for cymbals and guitars have been deployed at the show. Both mics have been favorites on this show, with the C451 being the permanent microphone on the hi-hats due of its excellent HF reproduction. C414’s are used on everything from Percussion/Drum overheads to shakers and piano, whereas the AKG D 112 was chosen for its excellent fit with the low end of the Cajon, the kick, and the duff. For consistency, all artists on the show are using the AKG K171 MK II headphones.

“This association exemplifies HARMAN’s commitment to quality and our ability to deliver on any stage,” said Prashant Govindan, Director – India Operations, Harman Professional. “HARMAN’s AKG, Soundcraft and JBL products combined with the experienced professionals from Flying Carpet Productions & SOUND.COM, provided perfect and reliable sound for yet another successful edition of Coke Studio at MTV India.”

“We are very excited to be a part of the Coke Studio at MTV, India’s unique exploration of India’s rich musical landscape,” concluded Ankush Agarwal, Director – Marketing & Business Development, HARMAN Professional India.

Firehouse Productions Finds the Pulse at 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival with HARMAN’s JBL Professional VTX Line Arrays and Crown I-Tech HD Amplifiers

Posted on 10:47 by Unknown
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – For the third year in a row, Firehouse Productions turned to JBL Professional and Crown Audio for the sound reinforcement system at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, deploying JBL VTX line arrays powered by Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers. The 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and featured performances by Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Muse and more.

This year’s system featured a total of 36 JBL VTX V25 fullsize line array elements (18 per side) and 24 VERTEC® VT4889 fullsize line array elements (12 per side), with 15 VTX G28 ground-stacked subwoofers. In addition, 12 VT4886 subcompact line array elements provided front fill. Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplifiers powered the system, which was controlled via JBL HiQnet Performance Manager™ software.

The 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival marks the latest in a series of high-profile events in which Firehouse Productions has utilized JBL VTX line arrays and Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers, including the 2013 Global Citizen Festival, the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the MTV Video Music Awards.

“Throughout the summer, we have continued to rely on VTX and I-Tech HD for our largest productions and they have consistently provided reliable, top-notch audio quality for each event,” said Mark Dittmar, Lead Design and Integration Engineer at Firehouse Productions. “The controllability of the sound and the ease of setup make this combination our go-to option for any production, but particularly for the highest-profile events.”

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Named Official Speaker Provider for The American Pavilion at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival

Posted on 06:46 by Unknown
NORTHRIDGE, California – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced that it is the Official Speaker Provider for The American Pavilion at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, which takes place May 15–26 in Cannes, France. The American Pavilion is the center of activity at the Cannes International Film Festival for the American film community, offering membership for professionals, provocative and insightful programming, immersive student programs, the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase and more.

JBL is providing four CBT 70J-1 column loudspeakers for The American Pavilion, which is located within the International Village. Because of the CBT 70J-1's studio-grade drivers and JBL's exclusive CBT pattern control, the loudspeakers provide the American Pavilion with superb sonic fidelity and even coverage throughout the space. The system includes four JBL CBT 70J-1 column loudspeakers instead of the 20 distributed loudspeakers that had previously been considered.

The CBT’s "Asymmetrical Progressive Gradient Coverage" sends more sound to the far area of the listening space than to the close areas. This allows sufficient sound to reach the far listeners without overwhelming listeners that are positioned closer to the loudspeakers.

The very wide 150-degree horizontal coverage allows more area in the pavilion to be covered from fewer loudspeaker locations and to ensure that off-axis listeners still hear the same quality of sound as on-axis listeners. Two of the speakers are located at the edge of the tent area, allowing them to also cover the listeners on the deck, who were not covered in previous years. In addition, the low-profile design of the CBT Series provides the pavilion with world-class sound while maintaining a visually discreet appearance.

With the ability to cover the area with fewer speakers, the entire system is driven from a single powered mixer, as opposed to the complexity of a rack system. With the power available from the existing powered mixer, each speaker is powered with 125 Watts.

“We are honored to be named as the Official Speaker Provider for The American Pavilion at Cannes,” said Brian Divine, Director of Marketing, JBL Professional. “JBL has a storied history in cinema, and this year attendees at The American Pavilion can look forward to enjoying the powerful, immersive and nuanced sound that JBL is known for.”

"We are thrilled to have the cutting-edge technology that JBL Professional brings to the table, which will give our members a sound experience beyond compare for all our programming this year," said Julie Sisk, Founder of The American Pavilion at Cannes.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Introduces Vertical Transporters for VTX Series Line Array Loudspeakers

Posted on 12:28 by Unknown

FRANKFURT, Germany – HARMAN’s JBL Professional today announced the introduction of its VTX Vertical Transporters, three rolling transporter frames that facilitate the transport of JBL VTX Series line array models for portable tour sound applications. The new transporters include the VTX-V25-VT and VTX-S28-VT for the V25 line array speaker and S28 subwoofer, respectively, and the advanced VTX-V25-VTT tiltable transporter for use with V25. In addition, the VTX-VT-FL forklift adapter is available for use with either VTX-V25-VT or VTX-S28-VT transporters.

The VTX-V25-VT vertical transporter is designed to transport up to four V25 line array loudspeakers and provides a cost-effective option for transporting blocks of V25 enclosures that are used for the upper, relatively flat portions of a variable curvature line array. Supplied in pairs, two VTX-V25-VT caster plates or “transporter skates” attach to the underside of the lower V25 speaker via the V25’s built-in suspension frame hardware. The lightweight transporter skates provide faster, more streamlined operation than conventional transporter grids and a convenient sliding handle feature allows the individual VTX-V25-VT skates to be located on either side of the bottom enclosure prior to securing with integral quick release pins.

The VTX-S28-VT transporter functions in a similar manner as the VTX-V25-VT and can be used to move up to three S28 subwoofers in either front-firing or reverse cardioid mode. Conditioning S28 enclosures in blocks of 3 is ideal from a circuiting point of view when powering subwoofers using Crown Audio VRack12000HD amplifier racks.

The VTX-V25-VT and VTX-S28-VT vertical transporters can both be used with the optional, removable VTX-VT-FL forklift adapter. The VTX-VT-FL is compatible with either vertical transporter and provides two slots that enable a forklift to lift VTX-V25-VT or VTX-S28-VT vertical transporters loaded with four V25 or three S28 enclosures, respectively.

The JBL VTX-V25-VTT Vertical Tiltable Transporter is intended for transporting blocks of V25 enclosures that are used for the lower, high curvature portions of a variable curvature line array (typically the bottom four cabinets). A unique tilting system allows all four enclosures mounted on the VTT to be physically tilted by up to -45 degrees, facilitating attachment of the VTT enclosure block to the upper enclosures that have been previously suspended during the setup process. The VTX-V25-VTT features integral forklift adapter slots, locking tilt adjustment arms and folds down flat for convenient storage when not in use.

All VTX vertical transporters feature tour grade casters with locking brakes for secure, reliable operation. Optional, reinforced protective covers are available for all VTX vertical transporters. Modular VTX-V25-VT and VTX-V25-VTT covers are adjustable to accommodate three or four V25 enclosures and the VTX-S28-VT cover can be used with three S28 enclosures in either front firing or cardioid configuration.

“The new VTX vertical transporters make it convenient and easy to move and set up a VTX line array system,” said Paul Bauman, Senior Manager, Tour Sound, JBL Professional. “They’re a welcome addition to any tour sound company’s VTX inventory and we are confident that these accessories will significantly streamline load in/out and installation operations.”

The new 15-inch PRX415M-WH and 12-inch PRX412M-WH offers the same performance and capabilities as the PRX412M and PRX415M, in a sleek white finish that offers systems designers with another loudspeaker option to discreetly fit into various environments that require white loudspeaker systems.

“The PRX400 Series has been a tremendous success for end-users and sound contractors who require exceptional sound and rugged reliability in a passive loudspeaker format,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, Loudspeaker Group. “In addition to our commitment to providing market-leading audio performance, the PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH demonstrate our commitment to providing a variety of aesthetic options for audio applications.”

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH can be used as either floor monitors or for overhead suspension in a permanent installation application where white enclosures are desirable. As with all PRX400 Series loudspeakers, they are designed to work hand in hand with Crown Audio’s powerful and innovative XTi2 Series amplifiers. Crown XTi2 amplifiers incorporate enhanced pre-set performance tunings for PRX400 Series loudspeakers, including crossover points for a sat/subwoofer setup, and optimized parametric filter that bring out the full potential of PRX400 Series loudspeakers. JBL PRX400 tunings are also available in the dbx DriveRack® PA+ signal processor/complete loudspeaker management system.

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH utilize extremely high-quality, tour-tested drivers and components to deliver clear, detailed and dynamic sound for bands, DJs, nightclubs, schools, houses of worship or other professional touring and installed sound applications. They feature Neutrik® SpeakON combination connectors and are built from lightweight, yet extremely tough 18mm birch/poplar multi-laminate hardwood covered in JBL’s resilient DuraFlex™ covering. They also feature rugged 16 gauge steel grilles with an acoustically transparent white cloth backing.

The PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH incorporate twelve M-10 suspension points and hardened steel eyebolts for safe hanging in light-duty installations. In common with all JBL Professional products, the PRX415M-WH and PRX412M-WH loudspeakers have survived JBL’s 100-hour power test, in which they are submitted to 100 hours of continuous, high-level input. The speakers also go through a barrage of unforgiving environmental and strength tests including harsh temperatures and humidity, ensuring they will perform perfectly anywhere. They also incorporate JBL’s Sonic Guard speaker protection circuit that automatically attenuates the signal going into the high-frequency section of the speaker if too much input signal is detected, and restores normal operation when the overload condition passes.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional PRX612M Powered Loudspeakers Support the Stars on “Guitar Center Sessions”

Posted on 12:47 by Unknown

Joe Walsh performs on the AUDIENCE Network’s
“Guitar Center Sessions” television series, which
features JBL Professional PRX612M
powered loudspeakers.
ANAHEIM, California  – Showcasing performances by some of rock and roll’s most iconic artists, the AUDIENCE Network’s “Guitar Center Sessions” television series has been a hit since first airing in 2010. To ensure that world-class audio is delivered to the live audience and the artists on stage, HARMAN’s JBL Professional PRX612M powered loudspeakers highlight the live sound system for the performances.

Held at the Vintage Room at Guitar Center’s Hollywood location, “Guitar Center Sessions” is hosted by Nic Harcourt and features the artists playing selections from their catalogs and discussing their careers and influences. A high-quality original music program that focuses on conversations and themes pertinent to the artist’s craft and creative process, “Guitar Center Sessions” provides artists with a highly credible platform to expose their music and stories to a large audience and furthers Guitar Center’s commitment to helping artists be heard in an ever-changing, uncertain music business. This season’s “Guitar Center Sessions” has included performances by Hoobastank, Papa Roach, Ben Folds Five, Meiko and Joe Walsh, with a performance by Jimmy Cliff scheduled to air on January 25.

“With such talented artists appearing on ‘Sessions’, it is crucial that they be supported on stage with world-class audio technology,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, JBL Professional. “We have seen the PRX612M adopted by countless successful musicians for their tours and installed in some of the world’s most prestigious live music venues. The PRX612M provides ‘Sessions’ with a level of sound quality that the program’s artists require and we are thrilled to be a part of this unique project!”

Utilizing tour-tested JBL Differential Drive® speaker technology, dbx Type IV™ limiting circuitry and Crown award-winning class-D amplifiers, the PRX612M delivers uncompromised performance in a package that is light, small and professional in both function and appearance. At the core of the PRX612M is a fully integrated DSP input section providing mic/line level input, selectable system EQ and a premium A/D converter for a maximum signal-to-noise ratio.
