The new Dante card will handle 64 channels in and out onto an Audinate Dante network, while the BSS BLU link card provides a 32 x 32 interface to the BSS digital audio bus, so can be easily integrated with dbx’s PMC Personal Monitor System and BSS Soundweb London devices. Further software updates for the Si Compact are planned, which will include functionality currently available on the Si Expression and Si Performer consoles, which already support the BLU link card.
The update also includes other improvements so updating existing consoles is highly recommended.

HARMAN’s dbx PMC16 Personal Monitor Controller Performs Double-Duty at First United Methodist Church
The church officials entrusted St. Louis, Missouri-based sound contractor The Aries Company (www.ariescompany.com) to design and specify the system for the 375-seat church. In addition to clear, intelligible audio throughout the sanctuary, the church needed an effective monitoring system for the members of the worship band.
Based on their analysis of the church’s architecture, Aries and its team, led by Technical Operations Manager Kelly Barrera specified a JBL loudspeaker complement that was as economical as it was effective. Just two JBL CBT70J+70JE-1 column speakers are needed to cover the sanctuary along with a PRX418S subwoofer and three AC25 compact loudspeakers under the balcony. Two JBL STX812M floor monitors are placed in front of the stage. In addition, four JBL Control 25CT in-ceiling speakers are installed in the lobby.
Crown CDi 4000, CDi 2000 and 180A amplifiers power the sanctuary’s loudspeakers. Front of house mixing is provided by a Soundcraft Si Performer digital live sound console, which among other aspects Barrera likes for its ability to name each channel and its channel patching, linking and grouping capabilities. A BSS Audio Soundweb London BLU-800 Signal Processor with Digital Audio Bus handles audio networking and processing for the system.
Barrera was particularly impressed by the flexibility of the dbx PMC16. The praise band uses six of them for onstage monitoring – and in an unusual application, a seventh is employed as a recording mixer for the church’s video production. Each channel can be tweaked with EQ, panning, Stereo Width control and effects, including a choice of built-in Lexicon® reverbs.
“The PMC16 has enhanced the band’s ability to hear themselves and really dial in their mixes to their personal preference,” Barrera noted. The PMC16 is also being used as a controller for the passive stage monitors. Barrera notes that when the PMC16 is used with the Soundcraft console, users can patch any microphone channel to aux and have the PMC16 run a passive monitor. “The PMC16 is a great little product,” Barrera concluded.

The attractively priced dbx PMC lets users precisely dial in the levels of up to 16 channels of audio and tweak each channel with EQ, panning, Stereo Width control and effects including a choice of built-in Lexicon®reverbs. Performers can control their mix on the fly in real time and save up to 16 user-preset mixes. The PMC works with traditional on-stage monitor systems, powered personal monitors, in-ear monitors, and headphones.
Multiple PMCs can be used in an audio system, and each user can have a unique mix. The PMC is ideal for everything from house of worship systems with a single compact mixing console to large-scale orchestra installations with up to 60 PMCs.
The dbx Personal Monitor Controller uses a BLU link audio bus from either the dbx TR1616 or any BSS London system to control 16 channels of digital audio (expandable up to 256). Its clean, uncluttered control layout, bright LCD screen and Wizard set-up and configuration utility make the PMC’s set-up time incredibly fast. All inputs and outputs are provided, and its integrated mic stand mount facilitates placement on stage. The PMC has a large channel ID strip that can be written on with a dry-erase marker, making it easy to label channel inputs. A live mode option provides the user the with capability to see real-time view of channels.
The PMC can be configured to operate with either 48kHz or 96kHz D/A conversion. Its built-in dbx PeakStop™ limiting prevents the possibility of signal overload. The PMC is future-ready, thanks to its USB port, DSC and Ethernet port for future updates.

The PMC16 can be used with traditional on-stage monitor systems, powered personal monitors, in-ear monitors, digital snakes and headphones.
