HARMAN’s JBL and Crown Provide Sound for National Network of Cinemas Project In Mongolia

Posted on 08:30 by Unknown
MONGOLIA — Most audio/video projects involve a single location and anything from a conference room to a domed stadium. That’s a major endeavor by anyone’s standards – but a project that involves equipping an entire country with a network of cinemas? That’s exactly what the Mongolia Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism (MCST) is currently undertaking in conjunction with systems integrator Cinema of Sound LLC and Kinoton Korea, Inc.

In their effort to provide professional high-quality cinemas to Mongolian citizens, Cinema of Sound and Kinoton are building Standard Cinema Point theaters in Mongolia’s aimags (first-level administrative subdivisions), villages and city districts. Twenty installations have been completed to date, spanning across the country’s nearly 604,000 square miles. Audio for all the installations is provided by HARMAN’s JBL JRX125 dual-15-inch loudspeakers and Crown DSi 2000 amplifiers, which are designed specifically for cinema applications.

“Mongolia is a country that has vast areas of scattered settlements and sparse population, so sparse that our country’s most remote citizens watch movies only on television, as there are no theaters,” said Jigjidsuren Khurelbaatar, CEO of Cinema of Sound LLC. “Thanks to our Standard Cinema Point project, which is part of the MCST’s efforts to bring a richer cultural environment to Mongolians, people throughout Mongolia will be able to enjoy a true cinema experience with high-quality sound and projection.”

Cinema of Sound LLC standardized on the JBL JRX125 loudspeakers and Crown DSi 2000 amplifiers for the Standard Cinema Point installations to achieve consistent sound, performance and reliability in every venue. “By standardizing the equipment we’re using, we know we can depend on a high level of audio quality and dependable day-to-day operation no matter where the theaters are located,” Chris Bae, Managing Director of Kinoton Korea, Inc.

The JRX125 incorporates features including dual 15-inch woofers with large 2.5-inch (64mm) edgewound ribbon voice coils, titanium-diaphragm compression high-frequency drivers and high-voltage crossover components to ensure exceptional performance under the most demanding conditions of day-to-day use. Crown’s DSi Series amplifiers are specifically designed to meet the needs of cinema applications and feature onboard digital signal processing including crossovers, EQ filters, delay and output limiting to deliver exceptional sound quality.

Cinema of Sound and Kinoton Korea are contracted to build 50 more Standard Cinema Point theaters in the remainder of 2013, bringing the total of theaters in Mongolia to 70. Theaters are currently installed in capital city Ulaanbaatar and in locations throughout the country.

Amerisports Bar’s Live Entertainment Relies on HARMAN Professional Solution with AKG Wireless In-Ear Monitoring System and Mics

Posted on 06:00 by Unknown
VIENNA, Austria – With live entertainment every weekend ranging from legendary classic rock to top 40 covers by local bands, Ameristar Casino’s Amerisports Bar located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, recently added HARMAN’s AKG IVM4500 IEM in-ear-monitors to improve sound for every act in its uniquely shaped room. With a full HARMAN support system, including a Soundcraft digital console, Crown amplifiers and JBL Professional loudspeakers, FOH engineer Dan Allen ensures that casino patrons will enjoy their time eating, drinking and dancing in the bar.

With the multiple sets of AKG IVM4500 IEM’s and its room simulation program, Allen says the performing artists have become more comfortable in the large room, which is octagonally shaped at the stage and dance floor end. The remaining area of the room – approximately 150 feet long – is rectangular and contains an island bar about 100 feet back. The room’s technical staff had struggled with acoustical issues for years before the HARMAN audio overhaul and a sound-dampening renovation. With the internal processing selections of IVM4500 including 8 compression, 8 EQ and 8 room simulations settings, moving onstage acts to the AKG in-ear monitoring system has yielded positive results.

“AKG thought of everything when it developed the IVM4500’s,” stated Allen. “The in-ears are easy to set up and have very low signal latency. Even artists who have no previous experience with in-ear monitors are easily adjusting to them, allowing for their best performances every week.”

Within the casino, wireless communication signals are very dense, as security and other departments utilize numerous free frequency channels. Allen’s AKG WMS470 wireless mic systems are always clear and have never dropped signal during a performance.

The Amerisports Bar’s audio reinforcement system also includes an AKG Rhythm Pack with a D112 kick drum mic, C430 condensers for overheads and D40’s for toms. A Soundcraft Si Expression 3 digital console and JBL STX800 series loudspeakers powered by Crown XTI amplifiers round out the concert sound system.

“I’ve really grown fond of the Soundcraft Expression,” Allen continued. “The user levels, recall and scene setups work well and can be easily used by our IT personnel if I’m not there. It’s easy to train those engineers on the Expression who are used to analog boards. And, the JBL speakers are very honest, leaving the entire system quite transparent, especially in the atypical-shaped room. I have been a JBL fan for life and every time I see that orange sticker, I know we’ll have great sound.”

Deserving of a Distinguished Service Medal: HARMAN’s Crown Retires Its D Series Power Amplifiers

Posted on 12:00 by Unknown

ELKHART, Indiana — HARMAN’s Crown Audio today announced that after 37 years of continuous production the company is discontinuing its D Series power amplifiers. In a run that’s unprecedented in the history of professional audio amplifiers, the Crown D Series became ubiquitous worldwide for its outstanding sound and unshakable reliability, and as the D Series era draws to a close, its legacy is embodied in every current Crown product.

“Little did the 1977 engineering development team know that the new D75 would turn out to be the longest running product of the company. During its lifetime over 100,000 were produced.  Generations of dedicated assembly personnel have touched the D75 and contributed to its long life. It epitomizes the focus we have to do our best and satisfy our customers,” stated Tom Szerencse, Manufacturing Engineer, HARMAN Professional Amplifier Business Unit.

The Crown D Series evolved from modest beginnings. “In 1977 we developed the D Series from the Crown SA20-20, a one-rack-space 20 watt per channel solid-state stereo power amp that was an accessory to the Crown tape recorders of the time,” said Gerald Stanley, Director of Research, HARMAN Professional Amplifier Business Unit. “However, when mounted in a rack the tape recorders and their electronics left little room for accessories, which shaped the compact form factor of the D Series and the rack-mount-ability of Crown amplifiers ever after.”

The Crown D Series soon became ever-present. After 37 years these amps are everywhere, in the studio, on stage, in broadcast facilities, in fixed installations and even in homes. The odds are almost everyone has heard one. Models like the moderate-power D-75A and D-45 were ideal for applications like recording and broadcast studio near-field monitoring and small paging systems, and with more than 25 years of continual production, the DC-300 has attained legendary status.

“If any amplifier line should receive a lifetime achievement award, it’s the D Series, Stanley concluded.” The Crown D Series has outlived most amplifier companies, let alone most amplifier families.”

HARMAN’s Crown Audio CTs Series Amplifiers Power Sound Coverage for Amusement and Theme Parks

Posted on 10:04 by Unknown

ORLANDO, Florida — HARMAN’s Crown Audio CTs Series multichannel power amplifiers are built for the most demanding conditions of continuous professional use, and offer versatile multizone networking and control features that make them ideal for amusement parks, theme parks and indoor and outdoor attractions.

CTs Series networkable power amplifiers are the workhorses of the pro audio industry for installed sound applications. Six models are available in eight-, four- and two-channel configurations with power ratings from 300 to 1500 watts per channel (into 4 ohms, up to 3,000 watts in bridged mono mode). Though powerful, CTs Series amplifiers are relatively compact and take up only 2U standard rack spaces in an equipment rack (3U for the 8-channel CTs 8200).

The amplifiers’ powerful performance is matched by their flexible networking capabilities. All CTs Series models can interface with a facility’s IT network and show control systems via their built-in CobraNet™ and HARMAN HiQnet™ connectivity, which provides digital audio delivery along with comprehensive control and monitoring features. HiQnet integrates all HARMAN products in the signal chain – amplifiers, mixing consoles, mics, speakers and other hardware – for professional audio systems of all types and sizes.

“We want IAAPA members to know that Crown CTs Series amplifiers are designed to accommodate the needs of large-scale facilities like amusement parks and themed entertainment facilities where a lot of amplifiers are required in many different areas. Thousands of these amplifiers have already been deployed in theme parks worldwide,” said Van Williamson, Business Development Manager, Commercial Systems for HARMAN Professional. “Each amplifier can be individually controlled and adjusted from a central control room or on site, and synchronized with video and other aspects of each individual attraction and performance.”

All the amplifiers feature selectable “Constant Voltage” or low impedance (4 or 8 ohm) operation, and most have 100-volt direct outputs, to accommodate any type of loudspeaker. Crown CTs Series amplifiers are backed by the industry’s most comprehensive amplifier warranty – five years parts and labor.

Are You Ready to Rock? Fillmore Silver Spring Gears Up With HARMAN’s JBL VERTEC® Line Arrays

Posted on 08:30 by Unknown
-->
NORTHRIDGE, California – When Live Nation opened the newest Fillmore venue in Silver Spring, Maryland, the company knew it had to have a sound system worthy of the Fillmore’s storied history and to meet this requirement, the Fillmore Silver Spring boasts a cutting-edge audio system that includes HARMAN’s JBL VerTec® line arrays, Crown Audio amplifiers and two Soundcraft mixing consoles.

The 28,000-square-foot, 2,000-capacity Fillmore Silver Spring was built as a collaborative effort between the State of Maryland, Montgomery County and Live Nation. The state and the county put up the money and Live Nation leases the facility from both on a long-term basis.

Sound Image of Escondido, California was contracted for the audio system design. The Fillmore’s main loudspeaker system includes two columns of eight JBL VerTec VT4888DPDA powered midsize line array elements flown left and right of the stage, complemented by eight ASB7128 subwoofers across the bottom front of the stage, four VRX915M stage monitors and 10 SRX712M monitors.

The delay system consists of pairs of JBL AC28/26 loudspeakers for upper balcony fill, VIP areas at the sides of the stage, under balcony fill and for the rear bar are. Amplification is supplied by 14 Crown XTi 6000 amplifiers and HARMAN’s HiQnet System Architect™ software is used for system monitoring JBL DrivePack enclosures and Crown power amplifiers. Completed the system, a pair of Soundcraft Vi6 96-input digital live sound consoles handle front of house and monitor mixing duties.

“First and foremost, the new PA system needed to sound amazing,” said Dan Schartoff, VP of Production for Live Nation. “We needed a system that would be adaptable for all types of events and live performances by the likes of Deadmau5, Guns N’ Roses, Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock, Trey Anastasio, Childish Gambino…the list goes on and on.”

Schartoff noted the many criteria that must be met to achieve that amazing sound. “We needed clarity from the audio system,” he said. “The system needed to pack a punch and have the ability to be a blank canvas for visiting engineers while also being rider-friendly.”

The two Soundcraft Vi6 consoles at the Fillmore Silver Spring also provide tremendous benefits, Schartoff noted. “We have Soundcraft consoles in many of our venues and they give the engineers a chance to store their show settings on a drive. They can make changes offline or have them ready to go when they arrive at the venue,” he said. “They sound great and enable users to eliminate most of their outboard gear.”

“HARMAN and JBL have been great to work with,” Schartoff concluded. “Their service and support, and availability to provide solutions has been excellent. I was a bit hesitant to go with VERTECand the Vi6 consoles at first, but they have exceeded our expectations.”
